MIT names its ten emerging technologies for 2014
Among them are drones, 3D printing, agile robots or ultraprivate smartphones
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has published its annual report, known as TR10, in which it exposes what it considers the best emerging technologies of the years. In 2014 we talk about drones, 3D printing, robots or ultraprivate smartphones, among others.
According to the director of the publication of the MIT, Jason Pontin, this report brings to light the ten technologies that will bring "new innovative trends" in which "each advance is the solution to an old problem" and that, in some cases, "It has appeared after decades of frustration."
Farmers drones is one of the outstanding innovations because, according to the experts, they allow to increase crop production without causing damage, monitoring, improving water consumption and managing pests thanks to the built-in cameras.
Also among the chosen are the ultraprivate 'smartphones', mobile phones that reveal the minimum amount of information of their users so that governments and advertisers do not get their data. "They reflect the spirit of the Snowden era," says MIT. Neuromorphic chips, microprocessors that act as brains to improve the artificial intelligence of digital devices and that will possibly replace traditional chips, are also prominent. But it is not the only technology related to the brain.
MIT has pointed to the 'atlas of the brain', a high-resolution map that allows to study the human brain with a detail of up to 20 micrometers and in 3D. This will allow neuroscientists to study it more accurately than ever. Related to medicine is also the genomic edition. It is a tool that has the ability to modify the genome to create primates with specific mutations and to study otherwise the brain disorders and other human diseases.
On the other hand, the experts emphasize the agile robots, those automatons with the ability to walk and run on uneven terrain, to which other wheeled machines can not reach. Similarly, among the 10 leading technology virtual reality hardware 'Oculus rift' that, experts say, that "combines quality and price to access the consumer market."
In his opinion, "will bring new forms of entertainment for video games and communication, as emergencies." Software that will help mobile devices to perform tasks in equipment, 3D microprinting capable of producing biological tissues, even to create blood vessels or artificial organs and smart wind and solar energy, are the rest of highlights.
